Dharma Master Zhi Rong’s New Year Message 2016
This New Year brings joy to some and sorrow to others. The earthquake in Taiwan is a stark reminder of impermanence! Not yet free from the cycle of rebirth, we are bound by the hands of impermanence. Impermanence accepts no bribes and is not corrupt; it comes according to karma and follows the conditions of our actions. It treats all beings equally, manifesting that all phenomena are empty. Things arise and cease due to conditions; gains and losses are illusory. Therefore, at a time when the nation is fragile, we live with insincere emotions and false intentions! In this degenerate age, our blessings are thin, wisdom shallow, karma heavy, and emotions deep. Our lives are precarious, uncertain from morning to evening. How dare we be negligent, acting recklessly, indulging freely, knowingly committing wrongs, and deceiving ourselves?
In a burning house, where is peace to be found? All six realms are full of suffering; how can we survive by mere chance? Do you not realize that others’ suffering is the prelude to your own sorrow? Squandering our blessings is the path to downfall. Our three minds are unresolved, our blessings insufficient, our morality lacking, and our wisdom meager. How can we find a way to live safely and preserve our lives? Fortunately, we encounter the Śūraṅgama Sūtra and the true words of the Buddhas! These are the lifesaving “grasses of the path” and transcendent spiritual texts, rare to encounter even in a thousand kalpas, unheard of in ten thousand lifetimes. The opportunity must not be missed; if lost, it will never return! If we do not seize it, we will be doomed for countless kalpas, regretting it for life. I hope everyone abandons false appearances and meaningless actions, faces life and death directly, understands karma, resolves the great matter of our own life and death, and addresses the danger of our own rebirth! Be vigilant of impermanence, deeply believe in karma, sincerely respect the words of the Buddha, and do not waste time, squander life, destroy your future, or cut off your wisdom!
I hope everyone recites the Śūraṅgama Sūtra constantly, saving themselves and others, severing the root of life early, even cutting off the nature of self! Attain Buddhahood!
